Red Bull reserve driver Alex Albon will race at select rounds of the DTM
The 24-year-old was changed by Sergio Perez at Pink Bull’s System One staff for 2021 but stays contracted to the power drinks model as a reserve driver.
Alongside his duties with the F1 staff, including simulator work and his place as a reserve for Perez and Max Verstappen, Pink Bull introduced he’ll race within the DTM, Germany’s top-level touring car sequence, at select rounds this season.
Albon’s DTM staff, the driving force he’ll share the cockpit with, and the type of car he’ll drive have not but been announced. New Zealander Liam Lawson was also named as a Pink Bull-backed DTM driver for 2021.
“The DTM with a high-class subject and GT3 sports cars is a fascinating platform and a real problem, each for successful race drivers like Alex Albon as for our Pink Bull junior driver Liam Lawson,” Helmut Marko, Pink Bull’s motorsport guide, mentioned.
Albon was demoted from his race drive at Pink Bull after struggling for the efficiency subsequent to teammate Verstappen in 2020. He joined the staff halfway through 2019 from Toro Rosso as Pierre Gasly’s alternative.
Albon is the first in line to replace both of the Pink Bull drivers in 2021 and can also be the reserve for junior staff AlphaTauri.
