“Kannada has a history of its own, having come into existence as many as 2,500 years ago. The language has been the pride of Kannadigas through the ages,” state minister Aravind Limbavali said.
Kannadigas had been outraged Thursday after a Google question on the “ugliest language in India” returned Kannada as the reply. After an uproar and the Karnataka government saying it could issue a legal notice to Google, the engine apologized and removed the search result.
Karnataka Minister for Kannada, Culture and Forest Aravind Limbavali mentioned, “I’ve instructed officers to ship a legal notice to Google for showing such a solution to that kind of a query. The Kannada language has a history of its personal, having come into existence as many as 2,500 years in the past. The language has been the delight of Kannadigas by means of the ages.”
Later, he took to Twitter to demand an apology from Google to Kannada and Kannadigas. “If Kannada is now referred to as the ugliest language in India, it’s merely an attempt by Google to insult this pride of Kannadigas. Demand apology from Google ASAP to Kannada, Kannadigas. the legal motion will be taken in opposition to Google for maligning the picture of our stunning language!” he tweeted.

In a response to the incident, Google mentioned the search end result was “not reflective of the opinions of Google”.
“Search isn’t at all times perfect. Typically, the best way content is described on the web can yield surprising outcomes to particular queries. We all know this is not ideally suited, but we take swift corrective motion after we are made conscious of a problem and are regularly working to enhance our algorithms. Naturally, these are not reflective of the opinions of Google, and we apologize for the misunderstanding and hurting any sentiments,” its assertion mentioned.
Aside from the state minister, former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy had additionally expressed outrage over the incident. In a sequence of tweets, he sought to know why Google “behaves in an irresponsible method” in terms of language.
Others, together with the BJP’s Bengaluru Central MP P C Mohan, slammed Google and requested it to apologize. Sharing the screenshot of the search on his Twitter deal with, Mohan mentioned Karnataka is house to the good Vijayanagara empire and the Kannada language has a wealthy heritage, a wonderful legacy, and distinctive tradition.
