Pixar is making a Buzz Lightyear origin film with Chris Evans. The Sudbury native desires to make clear exactly who he’s portraying

Disney simply unveiled its plans to launch “a galaxy’s worth” of the latest streaming offerings, including one that reaches infinity … and beyond.

Pixar introduced Thursday an all-new animated movie “Lightyear” — the definitive story of the unique Buzz Lightyear who can be voiced by Sudbury native Chris Evans.

The “Toy Story” prequel, which is due in theaters on June 17, 2022, tells the story of a younger take look at the pilot that turns into the area ranger we all know and love as we speak.

Evans took to Twitter to express his speechlessness.

But he rapidly followed that up with a clarification.

“This isn’t Buzz Lightyear the toy,” Evans tweeted. “That is the origin story of the human Buzz Lightyear that the toy is based on.”

Buzz Lightyear is, of course, a fictional character who was voiced by Tim Allen in all four “Toy Story” films dating from 1995 to 2019. Within the wake of the announcement, some fans of the Disney-Pixar basic expressed confusion over the casting.

“There is no Buzz Lightyear without Tim Allen #NotMyBuzz” one consumer wrote.

Evans appeared to wish to make clear that he was doing the voice for the hero who impressed the toy, not the toy itself, and never changing Tim Allen.

On Instagram, Evans additional clarified he was both nervous and excited about the movie because of Allen’s clear affiliation with the original Buzz role.

“My group might barely comprise their pleasure after they informed me that Pixar had a pitch for me,” Evans wrote. “All they mentioned was ‘Buzz Lightyear.’ I didn’t know what that meant, since Tim Allen is Buzz Lightyear, and nobody might ever touch his efficiency. I wanted to know the way this character was totally different and why this story was price telling.”

Evans continued: “I can say two issues with absolute confidence. 1. I didn’t cease smiling via the ENTIRE pitch. Ear to ear. 2. Everybody can rest easy. And get very excited.”

The spin-off undertaking was introduced at the Disney Investor Day conference, which also included major news around forthcoming Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar films and TV shows.
